Many Thanks

Thanks to everyone who left a comment, a link, or dropped me an email to wish us luck, congratulate us, etc. The wife and I appreciate it. Well, I appreciate the thoughts, she kinda blanks out as soon as I mention the website and doesn’t hear anything I say.

Anyhow, we had a healthy baby girl last Wednesday. Things are finally starting to settle down, which means I’m hoping to have some music later tonight.

Summer Reruns

I have to step away from the PC for the next week or two as my wife will be giving birth to our second child. As you would expect things are going to be hectic. Juggling two kids under two will be a challenge and I don’t see myself wiggling out of the paternal responsibilities until things settle down. In short, the wife has threatened to cut my balls off if she catches me fucking around on the computer. So there you have it. In the interim I’ve decided to link to some old posts that have been “revamped”, so to speak, so you all can kill some time while I attend to things (idea glommed from Agony Shorthand)

Horizontal Action’s Blackout

So is anyone going to the 5th annual Horizontal Action Blackout in Chicago? Shows started last night and continue tonight and tomorrow. Should be cool, what with the Pagans, Reigning Sound, Bad Times, Gris Gris, and others performing. Wish I could go. Ah, to be young and unfettered with obligations

Punk Fucking Rock!

Hey! Closing in on the one year anniversary of SiLT and I finally received my first “Cease and Desist” request. And cool, it’s from one of my all time favorite bands, The Effigies!

=======================================================

From: “mail” mail@effigies.com
To: music blogger
Subject: Don’t Use Effigies Tracks On Your Blog Anymore
Date: Tue, 10 May 2005 22:04:51 -0400

Please don’t post any Effigies tracks (including the ones from “Busted at
Oz”) on your blog @ http://somethingilearned.blogspot.com/
If you go back and reactivate previous months entries, do not activate
Effigies tracks.

Thank you,The Effigies

So that’s that. The files had already been removed from the posts in question, as I only keep things available for a month or so. If you’ve downloaded any Effigies tracks from this site please make sure you delete them from your computer. After that, take a hammer and smash your computer into a million tiny pieces. Finish the job by dousing the remains in kerosene and setting afire. Burn, motherfucker, burn (inspired by the SVC disclaimer)

It’s not that I mind being told to remove copyrighted material. That’s fine. I guess it’s to be expected when you do this kind of thing. Scott has received the same correspondence. He articulates his thoughts (which are essentially the same as mine) in much better fashion I could.

And oh yeah, please subscribe to our newsletter.

MP3 Player - Recommendations

Today marks my 33rd birthday and I’m going to celebrate by getting myself a long coveted hard drive mp3 player. Conventional wisdom and market share suggests the Apple Ipod (40 GB model) is the way to go. I have my reservations, mostly with the battery life. Can anyone comment on their experiences with the 40 GB Ipod, especially the 4th generation? Has anyone purchased alternative products from IRiver or Creative Zen? Good luck or bad, let me know your experience with any of these products (via comments or email)

Also, can anyone point me in the direction of some new or unique blogger templates? I’ve grown weary of this one but nothing else on blogger or noipo.org strikes my fancy.

thanks!

– Eric

Year End List Done Right

It may be all the cough syrup that’s slowing me down, but I finally got around to checking some other sites. Low and behold, I found a quality year end list without all the usual suspects. Frank over at No One Here Is Asking has a great list chock full aggressive music (translate - metal!) and tons of links and songs. This makes me realize how little new shit I bought, and how embarrassing my ‘Best of 2004′ list would look.

Seriously, stop over and take a look

hmmmm….

So I found this post while perusing mp3blogs.org

I thought, “aaahhh, a kindred spirit” only to follow the link back to my own Yahoo Briefcase shared folder.

I don’t mind - I actually find it funny. Check out the older files there that I was attempting to archive from the early days of this blog. I could never direct link to the files so I abandoned very early on.

More importantly, can someone tell me what language that blog is written in? Welsh?

Punk Vault

How could I have missed this site? Tons of old punk info on Punk Vault, from the eyes of the scrupulous collector. Part of the Spontaneous Combustion family.

Luckily, McG had this on his blogroll.
