None of the Above

If you haven’t stopped by Last Days of Man on Earth this week then you’ve missed Joe’s post on below the radar hardcore faves None of the Above. Joe serves up not only the Live at the Crystal Pistol demo but also the Moscow 7″. (Not to mention the excellent insight and humor). A request was made for someone to hook him up with the band’s self titled 1985 LP. As it stands, this thing is long out of print and a reissue doesn’t appear imminent. A shame really, as the band’s 2 singles and LP offer a solid mix of breakneck hardcore and thick punkrock that really deserves a wider audience. If you want the LP you can grab it below:
None of the Above - 1985 LP (19 tracks, 51 MB, rar archive)
Those looking for a taste can try the following tracks out:
None of the Above - Taking Away Your Rights.mp3
None of the Above - On the Pavement.mp3
None of the Above - Frustration.mp3
None of the Above - Self Destruct.mp3
None of the Above - Cut the Shit.mp3
None of the Above - Summer of ‘82.mp3

Great album!
I pulled this out of my LP collection a few months ago to break-in a newly bought USB turntable. It still kicks ass!
Keep up the good works!
this sounds like a great album. i tried to download the whole LP though, which i think was an .rar file. tried to download that, said my computer didn’t support it. i don’t really know how to work it, is all. i downloaded the regular mp3 tracks you had though. if you have any idea how to use that .rar file let me know, if you want. my email is dontlikemysneax@yahoo.com
N.O.T.A. ACTUALLY DOES HAVE A MYSPACE PAGE. ITS http://www.myspace.com/realnota
Thanks for posting this HC classic! When I finally bought the equiment and software to rip from vinyl/cassette to mp3, this was on the First Five list along with my Ruin LPs, Battalion of Saints, Offenders, and Bl’ast. A band and a record that deserved more attention than they got.
A funny story about this great LP…My friend had taped me it back in 1990 or so & was listening to it on my walkman when I walked into a record store in Glasgow (Scotland) & was flicking through the 2nd hand metal section (which I never did) & lo-&-behold this Lp was sitting there in great condition, though minus the lyric sheet. As Otto says above, this is a really under-rated LP/band.
An underrated classic, for sure. I made the mistake of sleeping on this record when it came out and ended up shelling out 80 bucks for it on eBay, and you know what? I don’t even care, it’s just that fucking good. You never disappoint - keep up the great posts!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Man…I can’t wait to hear this again. It’s been years. Jeff also has a myspace page as well. It’s here http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=7089215 . I believe he is in a band called The Hammercocks.
I recently rented American Hardcore and watched it again at home. Afterwards, I was really annoyed by certain aspects of it. Like how they spend all this time on NY, LA and Boston and then literally skim over Texas and the Midwest.
Check out Jeff’s picture with the tractor on his myspace site. Why, didn’t American Hardcore go interview him? Was he not important enough to the development of hardcore? And Dave Smalley and Danny Wasted were? I’m a fan of early Dag Nasty and Wasted Youth as much as the next guy, but NOTA were better. Or did they just run out of money? If so, then its a classic example of finances dictating “history”.
Anyway, that was the inspiration for my post on NOTA. I’m glad it stirred up a bunch of love for NOTA…they were great and represented what DIY was really all about. Thanks for posting this!
ANYBODY FROM AROUND HERE IN OKLAHOMA KNOWS JUST HOW GREAT N.O.T.A. WAS.
N.O.T.A.’S GREATEST HURDLE WAS ALWAYS THEIR LOCATION. MANY HAVE OFTEN WONDERED WHAT WOULD HAVE BECAME OF N.O.T.A. IF THEY WERE FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE OTHER THAN TULSA. IVE READ ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION THAT N.O.T.A. SHOULD HAVE BEEN AND WOULD HAVE BEEN THE “AGNOSTIC FRONT” OF HARDCORE IF THEY WERE FROM SAY, L.A. OR NEW YORK. THAT IS - GETTING TO THAT LEVEL SUCCESS AND NOTORIETY THAT A.F. HAS OBTAINED.
INSTEAD THOUGH IT WASNT L.A. OR NEW YORK IT WAS TULSA AND TO GET TO THE PLACE THAT N.O.T.A. DID IN HARDCORE HISTORY AND TO BE FROM A HICK-TOWN LIKE TULSA…WELL ONE COULD ARGUE THAT WAS JUST AS GREAT OF AN ACCOMPLISHMENT IF NOT MORE.
THEY DIDNT HAVE PLACES LIKE CBGB’S,OR THE ROXY HERE IN TULSA TO PLAY. THEY HAD TO START OFF PLAYING AT A COWBOY BAR CALLED THE CRYSTAL PISTOL ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHTS. TALK ABOUT HUMBLE BEGINNINGS.
BUT MAYBE ALL OF THAT IS WHAT MADE N.O.T.A. SO SPECIAL AND WHO KNOW’S WHAT WOULD HAVE BECOME OF THEM IF THEY WERE FROM L.A. OR NEW YORK. IF THEY HAD? …WELL N.O.T.A. MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN N.O.T.A.
JEFF STILL PLAYS. HE’S IN THE BAND “THE BEER MONGERS”

I Can’t recall but didn’t this come out on blue see-through vinyl at one time? “War on wankers”-fxxxn amazing, ha!!! thanx so much
LAST NIGHT N.O.T.A. PERFORMED TO A ENERGIZED PACKED HOUSE AT UNIT-D IN TULSA. IT WAS JEFF, BRUCE AND BOB. RUSSELL DID NOT MAKE IT. THEY GOT BACK TOGETHER TO PERFORM AT A TRIBUTE SHOW ALONG WITH SOME OTHER BANDS FOR A LONG TIME OF THEIRS THAT DIED.
I HAD NOT SEEN N.O.T.A. PERFORM IN 21 YEARS. IT WAS JUST AS GOOD NOW AS IT WAS THEN. THEY RIPPED THROUGH A SHORT SET OF N.O.T.A. CLASSICS SUCH AS CATTLE CALL, MOSCOW, NIGHT STICK JUSTICE, TOY SOLDIERS, I SHOULD KILL YOU, PROPAGANDA CONTROL AND OTHERS.
IT WAS SUCH A LONG TIME COMING. AT THE END OF THE SHORT SET THE CROWD WAS LEFT SCREAMING FOR MORE.
I HOPE THIS SHOW IS THE BEGINNING OF THINGS TO COME. IT WAS SUCH A BLAST FROM THE PAST TO SEE THEM AGAIN AND TO SEE EVERYONE FROM THE 80′S PUNK SCENE 20 YEARS LATER.
Thanks for the awesome post!!
Thanks for other tracks of N.O.T.A. what´s my fave
vinyl for years.

can someone recommend bands in this vien?
Ultra-Violent was CORRUPT…
so were a few others…
I discovered NOTA as a little skate punk circa 85-86, both this album and the toy soldiers 7″. Classic old school hardcore done right. No scenes, no gimmacks…straight out of the Outsiders TULSA….
So, I’m bummed…the opening track is corrupt and so are many of the others…#6, #9 in the RAR file…
PLEASE REPOST ULTRA-VIOLENT at least….
[…] This one is a real treat. It’s a demo from 1986 that was seriously making the rounds when I was down in Tulsa at the close of the 1980’s. Chronologically this would be the next thing N.O.T.A. did after the classic blue self-titled Rabid Cat LP. After this, I believe they broke up and Jeff went on to play in Crimes Against Humanity for a few years before reforming N.O.T.A. […]
The self titled album is one of the best hardcore records ever. So glad to see this out there.
