Life Sentence - No Experience Necessary

After I posted the first Life Sentence LP last spring the requests started rolling in for the whole of the second LP. So here it is, no use fighting it anymore. No Experience Necessary was the 1989 follow up to the classic debut LP. Anyone expecting a repeat of that LP will be disappointed, as that thick guitar sound is missing. Lots of speed and annoying guitar leads on this one. I can still groove on about 1/3 of this thing, the remainder sounds pretty boring these days. I’ve posted my favorites below, but you can download the whole thing as a .rar archive here

I agree with your comments. When this came out I really wanted to like it more. The elements where there, but the song writing was sub-par. I think both albums suffered from the songs being too long and wanky. The singer (higher pitched one) was better on the 1st one for sure. The drummer and bass player shred for sure though.

It’s too bad that they had a bunch of band drama because they could have been a contender if they got their shit together. Is it too much to ask for a little bit of punk professionalism now and then?

hahaha this made my day, thanks haiz!

totally agree: kinda boring, kinda out of place. the elements are still there but maybe the band was aiming a bit too high after all the praise the debut got. especially in germany, metalheads loved it and big magazines like “metal hammer” and “rock hard” gave it max points. crazy, when yoou think of it these days that everybody seems to be back in thinking in categories.

For the record, this 2nd LP has a different drummer, bassist, and vocalist from the first LP. Tom (drums) and I (bass, vocals) had quit. Many of the songs on the 2nd LP were songs that we had dropped a long time ago (Cancer, Freedom’s Promised Dreams, etc). Gun Control dates back to Eric’s pre-Life Sentence group, the Anti-Bodies. The Elevator Song was an instrumental I wrote that I was not credited for. I wrote it to give a breather from the thrash in our live set and was never meant to be recorded and put on a record. I put up some Life Sentence vids of the first LP lineup on You Tube if anyone is interested.
    Thanks,
    Joe
