Hard Feelings

I have absolutely no musical ability, but if I could play anything it would be guitar. And if I could play guitar, I would love to have the ability to deliver the goods like Austin, TX one man band John Schooley. Hailing out of the Missouri backwoods, Schooley spent the second half of 90’s laying down raw chords of nasty garage slop as part of The Revelators. After the Revelators split Schooley picked up with the Hard Feelings, taking on lead vocals in addition to guitar. While none of the bands three LP’s approach the singular greatness of The Revelators We Told You Not To Cross Us, there are plenty of individual moments that showcase the Hard Feelings fusion of 50’s greaser rock, 60’s soul, and 70’s punk energy. What sets this apart for me from the vast pool of garagepunk & roots bands is the filthy slide guitar freakouts that Schooley delivers. Check “Who’s That Knockin’?” or “Fox in the Henhouse”. Walter Daniels blowin’ harp ain’t a bad thing either. The Hard Feelings are currently in limbo, but John Schooley’s One Man Band is going strong

Wow!!
Thanks, must buy..
i LOVE the hard feelings!
i highly recommend their soul party 7″ if you don’t already have it.
Wow, it would appear that The Hard Feelings kick ass! Thanks for introducing me to them.
Any chance of posting some Revelators for the uninitiated?
I absolutely fucking love that Revelators record. Listened to it the other day, actually. Such a cool set up. The Hard Feelings are a band I’ve “been meaning” to check out but just never have. Holy shit, thanks for putting them back in my head (another helpful quality of mp3 blogs).
Thanks for caring! I see you live in Syracuse - you must be familiar with the Penetrators (of “Teenage Lifestyle” KBD fame…) and their classic “Kings of Basement Rock” LP.
If you didn’t already know, the the ‘Tard Squealings recorded a double single with Penetrators mastermind Spike on Dropkick. Only 150 ever got pressed since “label exec” Rich Stanley (of the Australian band the Onyas) got cancer and had to have a kidney removed right when he was pressing it up. It sounds pretty much like the Penetrators.
Anyway, you might not find that one, but my One Man Band record on Voodoo Rhythm is readily available…
Thanks again,
Schooley
Thanks for dropping by Schooley. The Penetrators deserve some play in these parts - they’ve been completely overlooked here in their hometown. And your record on Voodoo Rhythm was one of the best of 2005. (No joke, I said it here)
oooh, good stuff!
& Boston mix brought back memories - thanx
It is just a little difficult to keep track but I am going to have a listen to these songs because I think it was you who had me listen to the Mud City Manglers. Their songs (motherfuckin’ this, motherfuckin’ that, motherfuckin’ motherfucker here I motherfuckin’ come) sounded real good in the car on the way to the gym today.
Hi Schooley!!..Was Googlin’ & ran across this thread.Spike IS!!..Penetrators & Fred Records Head Honcho-and HE is ultimately in charge of such things.I DID feel that in all fairness to “The Syracuse Radio Area Situation”, that I chime in.”My understanding” is in Syracuse-there are really only two local shows, that will play “independent Music”-I might very well be wrong-& any additional information, I’d appreciate. They Are: Dave Fresina’s “Soundcheck Show” & Carl Caffarelli’s “This is Rock & Roll Radio” program. In fairness to BOTH these shows-I feel they’ve given my 2004 solo release “Badboy”-some pretty good play & I’d again like to thank them.iF YOU VISIT: www.JackPenetrator.com-I give a pretty good recap, of airplay I’ve received to date. Also: On my links page-checkout RADIO GAGA,-for a more in depth look specifically at Carl’s show.Again-I let SPIKE speak for The Penetrators, but I thought interested parties, mite want a quick peek at Syracuse Radio. All the best-to all the Hard Feelings!!…Jack
