Boston Hardcore and Punk 1978-1987
So here’s my first stab at a podcast, consisting of Boston area bands inspired by all the comments in response to the F.U.’s post below. I am by no means trying to pass myself off as an authority on the bands and the scene in question, just trying to group my favorite bands and songs from a deep and diverse scene. This is great shit. Hopefully I didn’t fuck this up (advice welcome). If you want more of these things let me know. Grab the file here (right click, save as):

Nice. Way to represent. You didn’t grow up here, too, did you?
This is pretty good. In the future you might want to think about talking a bit and breaking up the music. For a first podcast-excellent!
This is superb. Thanks. Good call on the Moving Targets. I love their stuff on the Bands That Could Be God comp.
thanks for the fedback.
Courtney - I’m not originally from Boston, just love the bands and the records. My hometown music isn’t nearly as enjoyable.
William - thanks for the advice, I need to get a microphone for the PC. Do people really want to hear me talk?!?? I still don’t understand the overall appeal of podcasts. Plus, this thing was a bitch to make (but now that I’m more familiar with Audacity I shouldn’t make the same mistakes next time around)
Great job.

man, oh man!
I’m floored by this post!
It brings back alot of memories….at least the ones I can remember!
Thanks!
didn’t know where to post this.
i just stumbled upon this article that lists a bunch of rare punk bands that i’ve never heard of (in fact, it’s called top 10 punk albums you’ve never heard).
here’s the link

but i’m having a lot of trouble trying to track down some of these albums. can anyone help?
ps. sorry for probably posting in the wrong category. keep up the awesome work!
Excellent collection! I gave you some promo over at my blog. Glad to hear The Proletariat again!
Hello, hey i really like your page
i don’t know almost anything of this music you post and talk about, but have found great music here– just knew mission of burma, but yr podcast is really cool
well yeah.. and by the way.. let me “recommend” you a hardcore band from here, they dont exist anymore, but yeah theyre good… atoxxxico… heres a myspace.. with some songs.. http://www.myspace.com/atoxxxicopunx
well good vibes….
Great mix! You can’t go wrong with an all Boston selection and remembering DYS and La Peste made it for me.
Fantastic stuff. Thanks. I love these bands.
Personally, I like hearing people talk about the music they are playing. When I started podcasting (I stopped for awhile, but I am coming back soon…) I wasn’t that comfortable doing it and didn’t really think anyone cared what I had to say. Over the past year, I have spoken to a lot of people who enjoyed what I had to say about bands, records, shows, etc so I guess it is a good idea to talk.
[…] Something I Learned Today just started podcasting. Their first podcast focused on Boston hardcore. A second podcast is also online. […]
I grew up on these bands, actually they stunted my growth they were so good.
Why did that nub post a comment about a Mexican band on a Boston podcast?
Great stuff on here. Any chance of you putting up more cancerous growth? The live 7″ is great along with the 12 ” and LP?
This is one of my favorite things on the entire internet. I’ve sent it to so many people.
I just gotta ask - Where can I find the “Imaginary Friend” LP by Sorry? I heard the song “Doomed From The Start” off here (great stuff; I love how experimental it is), but I can’t find it for sale anywhere.
All ages shows @ the Channel. Stranglehold, The Freeze, Cancerous Growth, Gang Green, FU’s, SSD, etc. This page is a national resource. Thanks.
Oh yeah. Pizza pad after Rat shows!
