What Was Your Best for 2006?
I didn’t buy dick this year, leaving me pretty short on items to list a “best of” for 2006. So I have to rely on you to clue me in as to what the best new material was for the past year. Seriously, I’m looking for tips on new shit. You know what to do…
And by the way: Thanks to everyone that leaves comments, sends emails, post links, and generally offers encouragement - it’s the biggest motivator to keep things moving ahead here. I hope everyone has a great 2007. Happy New Year to you all!

Circle Jerks- Group Sex re-issue on clear vinyl. Hahaha.
Social Distortion- sex, simples lyrics and rock’n roll LP - was this 05 or 06? Time flies ….
Jay Reatard “Blood Visions”
By far the biggest and best surprise of 2006.
Dave
I liked a lot of Grave Mistake Records output this year. Cardiac Arrest’s “Life’s A Dead End” 7″ was good, but Cloak/Dagger’s “Pinata” 7″ was unexpected and infectious.
Here’s my best of 06 list:

Perhaps most of SiLT interest would be the mentions of Sticks & Stones and The Ex. Happy New Year, all!

That new Cardiac Arrest record is fucking awesome, alot of solid midwest stuff like the new FJ, Brain Handle, Retainers and Chronic Seizure records are great. Or the new Mind Eraser LP is pretty fucking heavy. Finally: the new Government Warning LP!
the new motorhead, kiss of death, is supposed to be a return to form, i suppose it is better than some of their more recent output, but i am not convinced, you may be. all my friends who are ‘head fans are saying it is superb. but the bbc sessions & live is the business! not keen on them seperately, but together boris & sunn o))) are cool. as for reissues (living in the past!), mainliner - mellow out just fuckin’ destroys, esp. trk 2. the new dead moon comp. on sub pop rocks out in a most satisfying manner, as do some of the boredoms re-releases, esp. vision, creation, newsun, super ae, and chocolate synthesizer. more rockin’ out on leper war/black vomit by wolf eyes and anthony braxton. helpful? hope so!
Melvins: (a) senile animal is pretty good. And The Giraffes: self titled. At first listen it sounds like it might be plain rock’n'roll; but there’s more to it, and their live show is off the charts.
Album of the year:
The Bronx: S/T
Silver & bronze goes to:
The Briggs: Back to higher ground
Priestess: Hello Master
Hell yeah, Steve, I forgot about the Government Warning LP, possibly because I listened to it incessantly when I bought it and cannot stand it now! “Fat Nation” is a modern classic.
Thanx booch for the Giraffes tip. Checked their site and it looks promising!
The best song of last year are btw The Drips’ “(Ray Gay) 16 16 6″
fucked up lp
triple threat lp
have heart lp
betrayed lp
No question, my favorite reissue this year is “Coulda, shoulda, woulda” The Black Maret Baby collection on Dr. Strange records…For obvious reasons…;-)
Whoa, what label is that mainliner reissue on? Gotta check that out…
I think the Teenage Harlots are the best thing out there right now.
Based outta SF all their songs are short, hard, fast and catchy.
They just came out with an album called ‘Up the Fixx’ and its my fav for 2006 hands down.
Their myspace is: http://www.myspace.com/teenageharlets or their website is:

Check em out for sure
Best 2 for the year :
Red Eyed Soul by World / Inferno Friendship Society
and
The Great Depression by Defiance, Ohio
I didn’t finish in time : http://www.revinity.com/bestof2006
battleship “hearts addendum” and “to give not a gift” 7″ - scrappy and energetic, great stuff from oakland ca.
mission of burma “obliterati” - these guys took 20 years off and picked up exactly where they left off. not trying to update, or be retro, just really solid and good.
Second the Government Warning LP and Formaldahyde Junkies EPs. Other favorite from this year:
William Elliott Whitmore “Song of the Blackbird” LP Iron Maiden “A Matter of Life and Death”
Sanctum/Stormcrow split LP
Look Back and Laugh LP 2nd LP and “Street Terrorism” EP
Moss “Cthonic Rites” CD
Atavist “S/T” 2xLP
On the reissue front:
Wipers “Is This Real” LP
The Fix “At The Speed of Twisted Thought” LP
all the Electric Wizard reissues on Rise Above
Barn Av Regnbuen discog LP
Zmiv “Noise of Zmiv” LP
George Brigman “Jungle Rot” LP (twisted psych/blues/fuzz from ‘75. Recommended to Roky Erickson fans)
Biggest dissapointments:
Anti-Cimex “1981-1986″ of course the music is great, but the packaging is beyond awful. Worst looking record I have ever purchased.
Besthoven “A Lei Do Mais Fraco…” LP loved all the EPs and comp tracks, but this LP is boring and has awful, flat production.
A little late, but here’s what I really liked last year in no particular order:
Dustin’s Bar Mitzvah - Get Your Mood On
The Horrors - The Horrors EP
Jay Reatard - Blood Visions
Clown Alley - Circus of Chaos (reissue)
The Manges - Go Down
Dark Meat - Universal Indians
Punchpuppet - Crazed Drunk Pedestrians
There were lots of good singles floating around as well, overall not a terrible year.
Forgt The State “All Wrong” LP. The same band and line up that did the “No Illusiosn” EP comes back over 20 years later and releases a phenomenal hc LP that totally smokes and sounds like it could have come out right after the EP. Just amazing.
The new VENOM record!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i.e. “Metal Black” ha ha ha!
You’re kiddin, Slobo, aren’t you?! hahaha
