Punk Rock and Other Assorted Bullshit

Citizens Arrest

A short-lived blast of brutality from NYC, Citizens Arrest graced us with an EP and a fistful of comp tracks in the early 90’s before splintering on the eve of their first LP (Colussus). Hyperfast tracks in the Seige/Infest/Septic Death vein with insane vocals - hard to believe this shit aint Japanese. 1990’s A Light in the Darkness 6 song EP is smoking hot - I would post the whole thing but there are rumors of the discography getting a reissue. With that in mind here are a couple of cuts:

from 1990’s A Light In The Darkness EP
Citizens Arrest - Serve and Protect.mp3
Citizens Arrest - In The Distance.mp3

from 1991’s Colossus LP
Citizens Arrest - Through The Mist.mp3
Citizens Arrest - Pain.mp3
Citizens Arrest - Agony God.mp3

from 1990’s Look At All The Children Now comp
Citizens Arrest - Death Threat.mp3
Citizens Arrest - I Wont Allow.mp3

A little while back I posted the live 8″ flexi at Used Bin Forever. The mp3 links are old and busted, but if anyone wants the songs, email me at usedbinforever@yahoo.com. Great post.

This just serves to remind me that I really need to add Used Bin Forever to the blogroll on the right

That first 7″ is one of the best records to come out of the latter day NYHC scene. Great guys as well, at least Joe and Janis are(don’t know the other 2). Only saw them once at their farewell show at ABC No-Rio, probably my first time down there, back when dudes sold heroin on every corner and the dealers would try to get the punkers to let their pit-bulls fight each other.

    Nice band, indeed!

Daryl (singer) is now in a Black Metal band and recently toured with it together with KRIEG, a socalled NSBM (nationalsocialist black metal) band, through europe. Although I was a friend of Daryls for a long timee, I didn’t understand how he can team up with nazis. Sad story.

  10. Jon December 6th, 2006 8:18 pm

To the best of my knowledge neither of Daryl’s current bands (Abazagorath and Funebrarum) have toured Europe. There was some controversy not too long ago because the label that released a Funebrarum record included some hate flyer in with their record to which Daryl spoke out against and condemned. He’s quite a nice guy and while we’re splitting hairs, his adopted brother whom he grew up with is Africian American and he constantly spoke highly of him the last I saw him a few years ago. Hardly a racist.

I reissued the 7″, comp track and demo and live material a few years ago. If you would like to post the live stuff, I can email it to you. It’s totally raw and raging.

I actually stand corrected, Abazagorath did indeed tour with Krieg. I know nothing of them though.

“his adopted brother whom he grew up with is Africian American and he constantly spoke highly of him the last I saw him a few years ago. Hardly a racist.”

    Classic. Hahaha.

I would like to clear the air on a couple of things.
    Daryl is no racist.
We were good friends growing up in New Jersey and one thing that we had in common was our Jewish families!

  15. E. December 10th, 2006 11:19 am

Who said Daryl was racist? He just seemed to have quite of bit of tolerance towards an outspoken nazi band. Imagine that: Going on tour with a bunch of nazis. Who would do that?

Great argumentation anyway: Somebody couldn’t be racist cause he a.) had an adopted african american brother and b.) a jewish family background. If you’d think about it for a second, you’d realize how dumb this kind of argumentation is, cause the fact that somebody goes on tour with a bunch of nazis obviously has nothing to do with “ethnic” or religious family background.

Dig the CD Friedrich cover art on “A Light in the Darkness.” Stunningly appropriate.

    Hello you sons a bitches..

Let’s clear up this steaming pile of bullshit. The band Abazagorath (with whom I’ve been a member of for 12+ yrs now) did tour Europe with krieg- who are not a NS band. They are a primitive black metal band who got onto our tour and from I gathered are not nazis. You know what? I wouldn’t give a fuck if they were. Everyone has the right to their beliefs and if they don’t fit with mine perfectly, fuck em. Thats life. I’ve dealt with PC people who were ready to lynch someone because their beliefs were not shared. This is fascistic behavior. I don’t care if you listen to rudimentary peni, crass, have dirty dreadlocks and wear eco friendly clothing …its all bullshit. CXA were a hardcore band period who had little interest in politics. We showcased ourselves at a venue known for pc socialist anarchist bands and have earned a special place among them by doing so.

Yes, my brother is half black and the family that adopted us are jewish / atheist - big deal. My personal family life has absolutely nothing to do with Citizens Arrest nor any of my other bands, none of which has ever advocated racist or fascist beliefs.

The label who released our other bands’ ep included an anti-arab image on the back of their thanks list / unbeknownst to us. It was something the label did and had nothing to do with me or our band.

My time with CXA plays a strong part in who I am today and the musical path I have chosen. Judge CXA for what we were 16 yrs ago not some recent rumors you’ve heard about me. Thanks to Jon and Todd for backing up an old friend. You rule guys.

Take care and keep your eyes peeled for an official Citizens Arrest discography which will feature some rare unreleased tracks. Send requests to join the nazi party to our myspace. I will make sure dubya gets em.

Erich - the artist formally known as krieg has dissolved into a not so hot doom band and have left the shock statements along with the black metal trend behind them.
Please know your old friend has not fallen to the dark side. Even though it makes for great post-hardcore tidbit news - :)

  21. E. December 22nd, 2006 12:37 pm

I basically agree with most of what you said, Daryl - except for this: Krieg indeed did fraternize with ns ideology in interviews and was affiliated with the nsbm scene and hyped by the same. Saying that you don’t care if somebody is a nazi is a bit naive in my books and I frankly don’t understand this. But fair enough, I don’t have to understand it.
If the Krieg guys decidedto let go of their nazi bullshit, then that’s good news. Everybody should have the possiblity for personal change. Like myself (ex-left radical), haha.

    No offense, Daryl.

  22. Daryl CXA December 22nd, 2006 11:52 pm

The main point is that fucking shit krieg have nothing to do me right? right! Hope your well old pal, the extreme left radical with rubber bullet scars to prove it. Drop me a line anyplace beside a public forum intended to hang me out to dry. Remember there are always “TWO SIDES OF THE FUCKING COIN” AARGGHHHH!! GRIND TIL MUSICAL ANNIHILATION.
What happened to the Fear of God tribute compilation???
Thanks for the support but get rid of those fucking mp3s up there.

Krieg has not disbanded actually - they are playing a gig with Carnivore soon. Makes sense I guess. not my cup of tea.

Hope everyone had a good holiday!

Is it true Daryl joined the black panthers? What the heck is going on here? This guy is supposed to be a mouthpiece for political advocacy not hardcore. What will he do next?

  25. Thomas April 1st, 2007 5:12 pm

Last I heard he is working on writing something in the fast hardcore vein. Al of SSD might contribute.

  26. Daryl April 7th, 2007 11:50 pm

Jon / Dead alive - I need you to contact me asap man. Thanks!
