Motorhead

I’m in a Motorhead mood tonight and I don’t give a fuck what all y’all think. I’ve been meaning to post the ‘Head for awhile, but never had a hook until I saw this:
Motorhead to sponsor youth soccer team
Fuckin’ A right. The snaggletooth logo, “Ace of Spades”, hell, the games over before the other team even takes the field. I was 13 when I first heard Motorhead (courtesy the Young Ones) and was completely blown away - I purchased the bands No Remorse a day later. Below are a dozen or so of my favorite tracks from the “Dirtiest (and loudest) Band in Rock ‘n’ Roll”. Predictably, I’m most keen on the band’s classic lineup of Lemmy, Philthy Taylor, and Fast Eddie Clarke. It doesn’t get much better than Ace of Spades or Overkill. I’ve still included a couple from the latter years. Anyone needing some background on the band’s 30+ year history should check the Motorhead wikipedia entry or the official website. Better yet, pickup the 5 disc Stone Deaf Forever boxset and read the booklet.

Fucking Awesome! I was turned onto motorhead when my brother told me they wrote R.A.M.O.N.E.S. I’d never even heard of them, but there is alot to be heard when your 12…Lemmy for President!
Also thank you for your many posts on great bands! I’ve discovered many great bands off here!
Nice selection of songs and all of which are unobvious too. Keep up the great job here. Definitely a regular destination spot for yours truly.
Cheers,
Peter
Nicely done. Thank you.
I’m with ya on that first lineup. The song that Lemmy did recently with Probot was classic Motorhead. I read somewhere that Lemmy is now working on a rockabilly project with the bassist and drummer from the Stray Cats. Steve Buscemi’s line in the movie “Airheads” was a great tribute to the man: “Who would win a battle between Lemmy and God? Trick question — Lemmy is God!”
When some friends of mine were in England many years ago the people they were staying with, knowing their guests worshipped the ground Lemmy sweat on, said “Let’s go down to Lemmy’s local and see if he’s in.” Sure enough Lemmy was in the back of the pub playing pinball. Long live rock.
Saw them in 1981 live for the first time. The gig was so loooouudd that a great portion of the audience simply walked out, shaking heads (NOT banging). Heell, was I impressed! Haven’t seen MOTORHEAD live since 83 ….
PS: Going to see IRON MAIDEN in a couple o’days. Jealous? Probably not.
Timeless and a force of fucking nature - good looking out for posting “Too Late, Too Late.”
I forgot they were on The Young Ones until you mentioned it. They had a few good bands on there during their brief run didn’t they? I think The Damned showed up as well. Iron Maiden??? I just replaced my long worn out cassette of Number Of The Beast- have fun.
I’ve been a Motorhead fan since “No Sleep Til Hammersmith” came out. But one of my favorite songs now is one of their more mellower tunes: City Kids. Check it out if you (general audience) haven’t heard it.
One word: “BOMBER”!!!!
My friend listens to Motorhead everyday on his Ipod. He’s got the complete ‘Head discography (that is all he’s got on there!) and he listens to it on shuffle. Ha ha ha!
Makes me think of Slayer at the Reading Festival this summer: “Here’s a new song from our new album…”
And my friend goes “A new Slayer song? They all sound the same!”
Jon,
That project with Lemmy and the Stray Cats is called Headcat, I believe. There CD has been out for a few months. Motorhead is a great band. I think the current line up is the best since the days of Fast Eddie and Philthy Animal.
Hey,
Thanks for all the Motorhead. IT ROCKS. I didn’t have any before this, and even though I really liked what I heard, I never did get around to checking them out, so thanks a ton.
But I do need to ask a favor…I’m making a mix of basically kickass rock for my friend before we all go back home for winter break here at college, and I need to put “Ace of Spades” on there for him. It’s just kind of required, and besides, he asked for it. Would it be all right if you sent an mp3 of it as an attachment in an email, or just put it up on the site?
trop de la balle !!!!
