Offenders

Offenders - Fight BackOffenders- I Hate Myself

Thanks everyone for the post suggestions. Thanks also to Evil Do’er who saved me the trouble of ripping The Offenders singles. You can check out my original Offenders post from Feb 2005 if you’re looking for something wordy, I aint gonna give it too much here tonight beyond the basics. The first Offenders single (”Lost Causes” b/w “Rockin’ The Town”) was released in 1981 and was much less intense (i.e. “hardcore”) sounding than their later material. In 1989 Bitzcore reissued the single with 3 additional tracks from the same sessions as Fight Back. Here it is:

Offenders - Lost Causes.mp3
Offenders - Poor House Energy.mp3
Offenders - I Hate Myself.mp3
Offenders - Rockin’ The Town.mp3
Offenders - One Fine Morning.mp3

In addition, here’s the Offenders 1984 I Hate Myself 7″
Offenders - I Hate Myself.mp3
Offenders - Bad Times.mp3

For more great Offenders tracks try tracking down the Died In Custody CD. It’s a must have if only for the opportunity to hear the band’s amazing 11 track demo from 1983.

I didn’t realize the first 7″ was ever reissued. Sweet. I don’t know why We Must Rebel always gets bad reviews, I think it blazes. Especially the opening bass line of the title track.

ooch, I had no idea my comment would turn into a post here, I feel what’s the word? Squishy? Squooshy? So I scanned the front/back cover of the Bitzcore single..getithere:
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/nho51d

Which brings me to I Hate Myself, looking for it to scan as well I’ve come to the conclusion that it is still in the hands of the person who ripped my vinyl for me! About the time the Bitzcore reissue came out (’89)someone here in Texas popped up with must have been a whole box of those buggers, exactly the same as the older version I have so no question of it being a boot, but for a few months they were in all the independent record stores here!? Speaking with Davey Jones (Hickoids) recently at one of the DICKS reunion shows (he’s doing his time in that band now nicely thank you very much)he just came out with, “Oh I was in the Offenders way back when, I actually wrote Rockin’ the Town.” He said he never recorded anything with them though.Mickey Donaldson aka Mickey Offender is currently living in Amsterdam and does his time in The Nitwitz handling bass duties.Nitwitz were/are Tony Slug’s (BGK, Loveslug) vehicle and their newest lp Sex, Drugs and Duct Tape is a scorcher! Bout all I can tell you except that the Offenders did do some reunion shows a few years back, but the singer (not on Fightback, but all other releases) was trouble and seems he’s back in the housgouch doing time.. so that sort of fell apart and Mickey amscraed to the ‘Dam. Yow, once again thank you SILT for being rock solid and a credit to all those who search the endless search for those GEMS!

My favorite song by the Offenders was “Face Down In The Dirt”. Nothing ever came close to that one for me. Thanks for posting the first 7incher though…never heard it before!

It does totally rip. Mr. Stumble may recall this, wasn’t it the Offenders that caused the Busted At Bernard’s White Suburban Youth/Ultraman fiasco??

Kangaroo records reissued the I Hate Myself 7″ and one of the LPs, then released a discography CD. Came out last year, but probably easier to get in Europe

Why yes Malfeitor…I do believe you are quite correct. I was not at that particular show. I was probably grounded or something.

But…that whole smashup at Bernards was quite the talk of the town that year wasn’t it? It was like our own little “Elks Club Riot” except 6 years later and sweatier.

Ah the original Bernards, the smell of stale Bush Beer, cheap smokes, horse-trough urinals, goose-stepping skins from St Charles….

The original building is gone now. The entire area is now either manufactured luxury urban condos or manufactured low-income housing. I can’t tell the difference from the highway.

Wow…thanks yall for all the great comments. The Benards show, I will never ever forget that one! I think we were on our second song when the Police busted in. I’ve been playing guitar again recently, and have written a couple of new songs, I’m planning on forming a new band at this point, don’t have a name yet. But hope to see all of yall again someday soon.
