Something I Learned Today

Punk Rock and Other Assorted Bullshit

Hard Goddamn Work

For fuck’s sake, I’ve been trying to conjure up a post for this evening with no luck. I’ve been beaten to the punch by bloggers with quicker reflexes, which is becoming the norm these days. With all of the quality punk/hardcore mp3 blogs around these days it’s getting harder and harder to find something worthwhile that hasn’t already been posted somewhere. Of course, the big winners in all of this are you bastards - there is so much great, previously hard to come by music easily available for mass consumption. So what was I looking to post you wonder?

Dressed for the H Bomb gives us both tracks from the Huns lone single. Weird, wonderful stuff

Last Days of Man on Earth delivers a 1+2 punch of late 70’s LA punk greatness with both the Flesh Eaters first 7″ and the Gears Let’s Go To The Beach 7″.

Killed By Death Records has been on a roll lately, posting like a goddamn machine. Check The Normals single right here. Peter didn’t post the b-side for some reason. I’m more than happy to offer up “Hardcore”, which is a mighty fine piece of ‘78 Louisiana p-rock

The Normals - Hardcore.mp3

Chew on that (if you haven’t already) while I go back and try and come up with something for tomorrow.

I dont think it’s “who posts stuff first”, regulars to your blog will appreciate your posts.

Chaka could be right. I was happy to get your better rip of the Next and KBD provided the Rhythm Pigs 7″ that I had posted from a wobbly tape copy so it was nice to dump it and download Peter’s much better sounding one. I’m also kind of burning through stuff and have been debating whether or not to keep going. Paying every month in order to give away music is starting to fatigue me a bit, especially with some of the (kinda) newer sites becoming so prolific while I post less and less. We’ll see. Can you believe that I’m drawing a blank on something I’d like to hear that hasn’t been covered to suggest as a request? Guess I’ll leave it up to you.

You should all be going please! I would be more then happy to have you banners up and roling at the top of our banner space. Blogs like this, Dressed For The H Bomb, Last Days Of Man etc where the biggest inspirations to start in the first place for us.
Since people aren’t too keen on donating I’ve been thinking about doing some kind a registered blog. Like $1.00 per month to acces the site. But I don’t know.

Hey - the intent of this post was in no way meant to express frustration with the other blogs, just my particular frustration regarding the effort, etc. that goes into getting a post written. I figured I would use my lack of material to highlight some of the cool stuff that exists out there.

As for \”posting first\”, I\’ve always figured there is a lot of reader overlap amongst all the punk/hc mp3 blogs. My take has always been to avoid intentionally posting something that people may have already read and heard, especially if I can\’t provide anything above and beyond what exists. I think most of the sites approach the bands, records, etc. in the same way, which I always thought was pretty cool. Christ, I\’m rambling here…

True, true. Despite the bizarre exchange over posting “other people’s rips” over at Strange Reaction, I’m a big fan of it. My computer isn’t up to date enough to use Soulseek, so I appreciate a post from ANY source, and I don’t think it matters where it comes from. If I run out of stuff, I’ll probably get music from wherever. Its also nice to have other people distill the mass of music out there. Sometimes a record you think everyone knows about turns out to be new to someone else. By the way, who has the first Offenders 7″?

  7. caveman721 August 2nd, 2006 9:39 am

offenders 7′’ good damn question!that sure would sound good,so somebody out there, come off it!

dude, i’d be pleased as punch if one of you all posted the plugz “la bamba” 7-inch, or the our band suck 12-inch, or the smog marines, or whatever fuggin’ inferno record has “steinkopf” on it.

  9. Eric August 2nd, 2006 11:52 am

hmmm… I think I can manage the first Offenders 7\” some time this evening.

This is one of the few HC/Punk blogs I visit. I’m impressed by your taste/collection, good mix of old favorites and new sounds (new to me).
