Punk Rock and Other Assorted Bullshit

H-100s

And now for something completely different - a short blast of manic ’90’s hardcore from Cleveland’s H-100’s. There isn’t much info on them, other than this blurb from Havoc Records:

Cleveland Ohio’s h-100’s blast out crucial early 80’s style raw thrash. The singer was a teenage kid with a really snotty voice. The rest of the band were thirty-year-old record collector dudes who were there when hardcore ruled and didn’t forget. Although the h-100’s claim 80’s Japanese thrash as their main influence this record reminds me more of early Die Kreuzen, Poison Idea, Toxic Reasons or many other Midwestern thrash bands of the 80’s…H-100’s were notorious for their outrageous live shows which usually featured fireworks, wrestling moves and throwing everything that wasn’t nailed down.

The H-100s released 3 singles - Texas Death Match, Dismantle, and Distort Cleveland before - splitting in early 1996. 3/4 of the band would become 9 Shocks Terror, with Tony Erba & Wedge eventually forming Gordon Solie Motherfuckers. There was reportedly a CD of all three 7″s, but I’ve never seen it. 1995’s Distort Cleveland EP is my favorite of the three records. Take a listen:

H-100s - Brown Sugar.mp3
H-100s - Destroy Cleveland.mp3
H-100s - Shit We Live In Today.mp3
H-100s - Don’t Ask Me How I Am.mp3
H-100s - Free.mp3

And for good measure here are two more - “Agitate” is from Dismantle, “Picked On” is from Texas Death Match
H-100s - Agitate.mp3
H-100s - Picked On.mp3

im seriously shocked & stunned that anybody would bother to post this stuff…i guess somebody somehwhere was listening…

Upstab is done (sadly-THEY RULED!!) as of Xmas 2005, but the 12″ is gonna be out soon. their 3 ep’s are killers & should be obtained AT ONCE!!

theres no cd with all the ep’s, but their is an official 3″ cd released by Profane Existence Far East in late 1995 which includes the entire session this ep was taken from. about 7 years ago, P.E.F.E. reissued all their 3″ cd’s on a proper CD & included 2 live h100s tracks as a bonus…

h100s was the band that combined the remnants of Gag Reflex & Ruiners; both of which imploded just as Erba left Face Value. thats how we all hooked up as a band.

should be noted that i also played drum in INMATES simultaneously while h100s was going on. that band included people from CIDER & INTEGRITY & released 1 ep back then, and an LP in 2000(which just got reissued). INMATES are officially back & just finished a 10-day midwest tour & are planning a new ep by the end of the year.

im also starting another band & Chris Ruiner(h100s/upstab/ruiners vocalist) will be the vocalist…hopefully we can pick up where h100s left off

H 100s were a breath of fresh air in the pop punk and mosh core dominated 90’s and pretty much every project Wedge or Erba has been invovled with has been awesome, two dudes with taste and style. If anyone is interested I have several of the Nine Shocks Terror and H 100s releases still in print on my label. www.havocrex.com. I’ve also got some of the Upstab 7″s as well. All great stuff. Thanks to S.I.L.T. for putting this material up.

  11. chris erba June 23rd, 2006 11:30 am

yep, upstab is playing our “last show “. it’s @ my house in tremont @ the s.y.g. records headquarters. if you don;t know where that is, then you don’t effin belong there ! just look for 100 idiots on sk8boards, loud music, kegs, & fisticuffs. price is 3.00 or take a punch. upstab will feature ALL original members - marcus, jerry gonz, matt, sheldawg, & myself. show IS NOT @ the tower. it’s gonna be @ my house in the backyard. other bands playing include - john teeter & the time travelers, sinister mystery cloud, amps to 11. H-100’s dbl. sided t-shirts just finished printing yesterday & will be 4 sale, get em while they last, only 50 printed.

Yes, I have this record. It’s excellent. And put out by Burrito, which is the in-house label of Sound Idea. It’s in the next town and I go to shows there regularly, Bob the guy who put it out is awesome.
