The Skinnies
Image “on loan” from the generous folks at Killed By Death Records!
Last week I posted on the Shit Dogs, and you, dear readers, underwhelmingly responded with exactly one comment. Well, fuck you I’m going back to the well with some more Louisiana punk rock. This time we have The Skinnies from New Orleans. Their Kill The Beat 7″ was released on ‘Lectric Eye back in 1978, and has been given the the whole Killed/Hyped/Death treatment. CollectorScum calls it “Classic loser punk”. Do you need anything else? Really, both of these tracks are excellent and deserve a listen. Anyone wanting to share info on the band is welcome to comment

shit dogs rule. so do the skinnies… who dosent like the shit dogs??? FOR SHAME!
Hey, I posted the N.O Experience comp. so you know I dig ‘em! :p
New Orleans punk tunes seem to be coming on strong! Must admit I didn’t really know that much about their scene before these sites but there’s a lot of good stuff.
Cool Tunes..Thanks for the listen.
Both these bands rule, hnds down. My favourite NO band is the manic depressives though. Now that is an under appreciated band!
This is grand. More NOLA punk anytime. Thanks from a long time ago for Communist Radio.
This is great. Other NOLA bands like The Cold tried to be punk but failed in comparison.
C. Boll, the brains behind the Skinnies works at Microsoft last I heard. Apparently he’s a real computer smarty-pants! These guys were part of the early N.O. (New Orleans) scene that sported groups like the Normals (”Almost Ready”), Men In Black (”S&M Bar”), Red Rockers (”Guns of Revolution”). There were many other notable bands, compiled on “N.O. Experience Necessary” a legit / licensed Italian comp Lp. The Skinnies had a bunch of other pretty good tracks that were originally available from the band on CDR and then later were officially issued by Rave Up records on 7″. It’s called the “Out of Order” EP and is 6 songs, the original 2 tracks from the 45 plus 4 others. Here’s a few links if you are interested to read more:

Matar Muerte sounds like Carlos himself (he always was so humble). Other members of the Skinnies were Rick Polizzi - drums (last heard working for/on “The Simpsons” cartoon), Bobby Brennan - bass + vocals, and “Mandeville” Mike - lead vocals.
