V/A - Smells Like Smoked Sausages

Christ, I wish I had joined the goddamn Sub Pop Singles club way back when, not necessarily for the investment value but simply to have had a chance at so much cool swag. Smells Like Smoked Sausages was the February/March of 1992 installment of the singles series, a double 7″ compilation comprised entirely of Amphetamine Reptile recording artists. I think most of these tracks have never made it to CD, with the exception of the Helmet track. Choice cuts from Tar and Vertigo amongst others, overall this is a solid overview of the AmRep sound at one of its peak periods.

Tar - Deep Throw.mp3
Cows - My Girl.mp3
Vertigo - Dynamite Cigar.mp3
Helios Creed - Hideous Greed.mp3
Helmet - Oven.mp3
Surgery - Our Demise.mp3
Boss Hog - Fire of Love.mp3
God Bullies - Bullet.mp3

what’s also funny about the ebay auction is look @ how many copies of some of the records were pressed. 7500 copies ain’t a rarity in my book. I happen to own a bunch of the early ones an up until the end of the first series. most of these records are just collecting dust and don’t have alot of sentimental value to me but I probably wouldn’t get rid of em’. Just like a few years ago when I sold most of my misfits originals, I was able to pay my mortgage and car payment for a couple of months……with this subpop shit, I may just get a semester or two of college (university of course) fom my kids. Once grunge comes back around again and the rich outsiders are trying to buy a chunk of history to be cool, I may have to dust some of these off…………..

btw “smells like…” amrep 2×7″ was one of the more merorable s.p. releases anyway. go figure, they weren’t even “their” bands.

I have some of my Sub Pop sotm records, but sadly most of them paid my rent during my more fucked up years. Stupid stupid stupid! Ah well, youth.

I saw a bunch of these bands on the last day of their “Ugly American Overkill Tour”. I bootlegged them but only have the God Bullies still on tape. I also bought the tour ep which was limited to 2000, plus Surgery and Helmet LPs all on Amphetamine Reptile Records.

Ok, I had this double 7″ back in the day and sold it. I recently bought another copy off of eBay. when I played it today I realized that the track that should have been “Oven” by Helmet was another song. I don’t know if this was a common misprint or not. I don’t even know what song it is let alone the artisit. Anyone have any guesses?
