God Punishes The Eat

A comment on a way old post asked about The Eat’s second 7″, God Punishes The Eat. I had assumed it had been posted by one of the usual suspects but a check showed it had not. Huh, no love for the Eat? The Miami band’s fist release Communist Radio/Catholic Love is one of the top American punk singles. You can check it out here. Tough to live up to a song as good as “Communist Radio”, and the second single from the Eat fails to meet the standard (despite some of my favorite cover art). Still, 1980’s God Punishes The Eat is a great single full of funny, fuzzy, barely out of the garage punk. I think most of the tracks have been comped in one form or another in the KBD series, but this is all of them in one place. How can all material this still not be reissued?

awesome, THANKS for the post!
Supposedly there is a CD called “Slowly I Turn” that has a ton of tracks on it. I have a dupe copy that a friend gave me but have never seen a real one, nor can I find one for sale online (although I found a couple of very brief mentions of it.)
I’ve got a killer 2×7″ bootleg of this with a ton of inserts and shit… I’ll check to see if it has “extra” songs (I think it may on the second record.)
I grew up in Miami in the 70s and this
was the first “punk” band I ever saw.
Nobody liked these guys. I bought the 7inch and it had a bunch of stuff in it;
cereal boxtop, sticker, tiny cheesecake
photo etc. I’m surprised anyone still owns this.
Fuck, this record is so fucking good. That’s really all I can say about it. It’s totally awesome.
the post for the communist radio/catholic love 7″ has bad links. they both link to “catholic love”, not “communist radio”…help?
Florida always had large heavy metal scene and much of the punk veres away from macho punk to punk with stupid (yet great) lyrics, strange band names and goofy antics. The Eat are a perfect example. Love it!
Hey Josh, you can grab the other Eat right here:

Nut Cop is great, it’s no Communist Radio but it’s still a gem.
Sorry for the delay, corrected the fucked up Communist Radio links
Hello there. I think we might do a cover of Jimmie B. Goode, but I can’t figure out some lines. Could any of you please help me out? Here’s what I caught:
jimmie left the room with a bottle in his hand now
what a way to go
he’s still looking for another girl to bang now
you think by now he’d know
jimmie jimmie jimmie jimmie tell me all about that
you can talk to me
???
you shouldn’t listen to me we could be watching tv
jimmie said he hopes ???
i said i hope so too
i was just wondering if she could speak english
she’s lookin at me too
jimmie jimmie jimmie i don’t wanna hear ???
i just got home from work
The rest pretty much remains a mystery.
First indie record I ever bought. First live band I ever went to see.
Straight off the lyric sheet for drainfunk:
Jimmy B. Goode (by Eddie O’Brien)
Jimmy left the room with a bottle in his hand, now
What a way to go
He’s still looking for another kind of man, now
You’d think by now he’d know
Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy tell me all about it
You can talk to me
You keep believing, you never even doubt it
You should have listened to me, we could be watching TV
Jimmy said he hoped that I would get my wish
I said I hope so too
I was just wondering if she could speak English
She’s looking at me too
Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy I don’t want to hear the chair scrape
I just got home from work
But Jimmy, Jimmy doesn’t want to paint another landscape
He wants to gnash his teeth, he wants to do the jerk
Jimmy left the bar and was standing in the rain, now
He didn’t look for me
He found the car with a funny kind of pain, now
I handed him his key
Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy do you want me to drive you?
It ain’t no trouble for me
I was just wondering if I could survive you
The things you try to do, you make it hard for me
