Poison Idea
Pick your Poison Idea king - early ’80’s, svelte (by comparison), hardcore Poison Idea, or late 80’s, morbidly obese, speedcore PI? I’ll straddle the fence and say I like both - 1983’s Pick Your King may be one of best US hardcore 7″ of the era while 1990’s Feel The Darkness is easily one of my top LP’s of the early 90’s. Below are two Poison Idea 7″s, one from each period. Darby Crash Rides Again is the band’s 1982 demo tape that was released on vinyl by the band in 1989 on their own American Leather label. Most of the songs would be better recorded for Pick Your King:

FUGGIN’ POISON IDEA !!!!! Thee baddest band pound for pound in any era of h.c. and really swell guys to boot. I offered them a place to stay when they played Detroit(ann arbor really) on the feel the darkness tour, but Tom(pig champion) declined
cuz I lived on the 2nd floor of a shitty old building. I ended up sittin’ up half the night with em’ in there van talking about the finer points of record collecting and boozin’.
Tom also hosted the coolest radio show ever on P-town’s KBOO.
I listened to him for months before I knew he was Pig Champion. He even dissed his own band on the air to throw us off.

a few weeks ago i broke out pick yr king for the 1st time in a long while. pure hate stands w/ the *all-time* best h/c songs ever…
one of the greatest bands ever… I agree about “Pick Your King”… it’s a toss-up for me between that and Negative Approach as to what is my favorite early 80s hardcore 7″

Tom Pig passed away on Tuesday January 31st.

Portland loses another legendary person in the entertainment industry this year. He will be missed.
f#ckin´hell, what a blast…haven´t heard their stuff for couple years, but still blows me away…so sad about pig champion!!! is it for real this time? about 7 or 8 years ago the rumour about pig´s death was around, but portland´s DETESTATION once told me it´s a joke when they stayed at my house…so many stories about these guys..
anyone knows about slayer hippie? myrtle tickner?
