Punk Rock and Other Assorted Bullshit

Lee Harvey Oswald Band

As promised several weeks back, here finally is the mysterious Lee Harvey Oswald Band. Apparently Lee Harvey Oswald was a side project featuring Didjits frontman Rick Sims and graphic artist David Landis (can’t verify) hiding behind makeup, wigs, and pseudonyms (Dredge and Zowie Fenderblast). The music is less Didjits mayhem and more NY Dolls inspired sludgy glam rock, featuring distorted vocals, dirty production, and odd covers (Wings “Junior’s Farm”, and The Amboy Dukes “You Speak Sunshine, I Breath Fire” among them). Or, as TrouserPress describes them: Urge Overkill practicing to be an MC5 cover band

The band’a=s albums can be uneven, varying from balls out rockers to pure dreck. (i.e. the cover of “Locomotion” an example of the latter) 1996’s Blastronaut is more polished and poppy than 1994’s A Taste of Prison and features a more tracks with Sims on vocals. You decide if that is good or bad. Check it out:

I’m amazed someone else actually owns “A Taste of Prison”. Jesus Never Lived on Mars” is fantastic.

I think I own everything Rick has been a part of. Genious to say the least. My band toured with the Gaza Strippers a lot, so I can honestly say a great guy too. RAWK!

I had no idea these guys were still around!

Haven’t heard Taste in a while. Excellent. This is a great page. Thanks, I’ve asked freaks from Seattle to Charleston if they’ve heard of TLHOB and always get blank stares.

Thanks for coming through yet again! I had speculated, foolishly, that Richard from the Psychedelic Furs might be involved…

Rick’s got a new band with Cory and Darren, both ex-Gaza Strippers, and they may or may not be going by the name “Pig Dope”.

Love your site and all your links. Everything is good. I used to really dig Lee Harvey Oswald Band and the Didjits. Too bad offspring gets credit for convering/butchering ‘killboy powerhead.’
I was wondering if you could put up ‘Getting wasted with the vampires’ or send it to me. That would be gnarly.
Keep up the site. Its hella cool.

Rick, Darren, and Cory are playing under the name “Here Comes Old Vodka Tits” and are opening for the Last Vegas at the Double Door in Chicago on March 10, 2006.

SILT “reviewer” or whatever title you opinionate under: You’ve got to be real jaded to not dig LHOB. Maybe life just isn’t worth living anymore and you should just kill yourself.

Kardic - me like ‘um just fine. Maybe you have trouble reading yes? Why do think I have ‘em on here, for fuck’s sake?!??

thank you for posting. I loved LHOB and Blastronaut is a top favorite. Straight ahead rock, yes NY Dolls style and tight light their pants!
