The Victims - NYC

No, not another post on the great Australian Victims. This is the Victims from New york City. I can’t track down any real info on the band, so I’ll just give you what I have. In the late ’70’s the Victims released a couple of seven inches and one LP. Their second 7″ has the distinction of being the only non-Glenn Danzig related band to have a record released on Plan 9. Frontman Rick Riley was an emergency guitar fill-in for the Misfits at one time. The band plays some choice NYC ‘77 style punk rock & roll full of grit and sleaze. Below is the Plan 9 seven inch and a couple of tracks from their lone LP Real Wild Child:
Victims - Annette.mp3
Victims - I Want Head.mp3
Victims - Behind The Times.mp3
Victims - Nervous.mp3

from 1979′a Real Wild Child
Victims - (Gotta Find A) Substitute.mp3
Victims - She’s So Hot.mp3
Victims - Dance With You.mp

Notes:

  • pic swiped from the Punk Rock Picture Sleeve archive
  • If I recall, I believe the Devil Dogs covered “Dance With You” on their Saturday Night Fever album

Coolsville…Backstage…Dance with you… All my favourite Devil Dogs tunes turn out to be covers! Great original (too), though!

Hey! Thanks for putting stuff on here about us and saying the cool things you said about us too. This is Steve Berman, the bass player from The Victims. I’m the guy on the far right of the Plan 9 EP picture sleeve. With the exception of She’s So Hot we did all of the songs you have on here at two reunion shows we did this past year. Last October we did our first show together in 25 years at The Continental in NYC. It was an amazing night! Lots of other people from the late 70’s played and showed up. Here’s a link to a page about that night: http://www.punklegends.com/ak.html
We also played CBGB’s in January with Tuff Darts, Ruby & The Rednecks with the M.C. being the one and only Jayne County! If I can figure out what to do, I’ll post some pics from that night. We may be doing another show in NYC in a couple of months with The Rick Rivets Band, Tuff Darts, Lipstick Killers, and Electric Frankenstein. Back in the late 70’s we were regulars at Max’s Kansas City and did shows with bands like The Misfits, Johnny Thunders, The Blessed, The Troggs, Sid Vicious, and many more…

The Victims are awesome. “I Want Head” is a great tune, but all the Victims stuff is solid.
