You used them in the earlier post, but you could still go with the Minutemen’s “Bob Dylan Wrote Propaganda Songs.” Both Silverfish and the Briefs had songs called “Dolly Parton.” The Silverfish one is pretty great.

Redd Kross has Linda Blair and Annette’s Got The Hits. That Big Apple Rotten To The Core compilation has a song called Brooke Shields (”Fuck you Brooke Sheilds, you posed in the nude/Now you want the pictures back, Oh fuck you/Oh fuck you/Oh fuck you”).

Queers - Wimpy Drives Through Harlem
Queers - Tuly Is A Wimp
    Briefs - Kill Bob Seiger
    Teen Idles - Deadhead
    Meatmen - TSOL are Sissies
    Meatmen - Morrissey Must Die
Meatmen - ABBA, God And Me
    ModernLifeIsWar - D.E.A.D.R.A.M.O.N.E.S.

I guess it’s not really ‘name dropping’ but it’s a blatant stab at another band:

    Red Cross - Cover Band

  14. richie August 3rd, 2005 12:52 am

    Rapeman - Kim Gordon’s Panties

  15. Dustin August 6th, 2005 2:01 am

Homosexual- Angry Samoans (some thing about Howard Hughes + Darby Crash)
Oh Bondage, Up Yours- X Ray Spex
Frat Boy- Caustic Christ (Dropkick Murphies hate-age)
    Fist Fuck- Dr. Know
    Ricki Lake- Charles Bronson
Too Fat to Skate- Coughing Up Blood (mention JFA)
Peter Frampton Must Die- I Hate You When You’re Pregnant
    Frank Discussion- Soylent Greene

I’d say these are pretty good examples…

P.S. Does “I’m James Dean” by Government Issue count??

Wow. By an amazing coincidence, I’ve just posted “Martin Scorsese Is Really Quite A Jovial Fellow” by This Is Serious Mum to my blog (click Homepage). Sometime I must post their So-Cal hit (ie not a hit) “Thou Shalt Not Britney Spear”. Be warned though, new wave/disco ahead.

  17. Jaimi August 8th, 2005 9:26 pm

    Minutemen - Joe McCarthy’s Ghost

I play that song over and over.

How is “Bondage, Up Yours” a name drop? Is it about Bekki Bondage?

  19. J Marinelli August 16th, 2005 9:36 pm

Holy crap! “Grant Hart” could be a Zen Arcade b-side… a tender homage, my friend.

How about “For the Singer of REM” by fIREHOSE?

I have to recommend “Silver Bullet” by The Briefs (a great Seattle-based punk-ish band). A hilarious song about killing Bob Seger in various nasty ways. Here’s the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x31kafHNqKQ&search=clockwork
