Punk Rock and Other Assorted Bullshit

The Lids

Ripoff Records releases are usually hit or miss for me, but for some reason the 2004 self-titled LP from Atlanta five-piece The Lids stuck in my craw for more than a few minutes. It’s got the sound I’ve come to expect from that label - poppy garage punk with a buzzsaw guitar sound. I dunno if it’s the guitar sound, or the bratty female vocals, or what, but this album stuck out from the pack. Take a listen:

The single is also worth tracking down. It has really, really lo-fi versions of 2-3 songs on the CD, plus one that never made it to that release. They were also a lot of fun live. Unfortunately they broke up not too long after the full-length came out.

Links to the songs seem unusable.
