Dope, Guns, and Fucking in the Streets (part 1)

“Rock and Roll, Dope, and Fucking In the Streets” - the credo of the MC5 and the White Panther party, designed to strike fear into the hearts of the establishment in the late ’60’s. Tom Hazelmeyer liked the slogan so much he decided to tweak it and use it as the title of the infamous compilation series on his Amphetamine Reptile record label. 11 volumes of the 7″ series were released during the heydey of AmRep’s run (1988-1997). If you are familiar with AmRep then you know what to expect: scuzzy, freaked out noise rock with a fuck you attitude. The compilations featured the big names of the AmRep stable (Halo of Flies, Helmet, Cows) and other like-minded outfits(Mudhoney, Jesus Lizard, Jawbox, Rocket From The Crypt, et al.). AmRep also released a video compilation called Dope, Guns, and Fucking Up Your Video Deck that has been reissued on DVD (and recently reviewed by the Punk Vault).
Check out the GrunnenRocks AmRep discography for the full band and track details on the series. I’ve decided to go with my favorite track from each of volumes 1-6 tonight. Highlights:

Mudhoney - Twenty Four.mp3
from volume 2 (1989) - a double 7″ so two tracks

Ah, the memories. I’m happy to see someone else liked Tad.
Awesome Helmet song… never realised they had it in them
p.s. which Jesus Lizard song did they use?

I got really messed with Tad one night. Seeing him while in a weird state of mind is something I’ll never forget.
Tim… the Jesus Lizard song is “Pop Song” - not one of their best, but not bad.
Scott/T - Tad Doyle was frightening enough, add chemicals and costumes and you’re in trouble
